The Shulers as a family have a long history of supporting their community by providing quality veterinary care. In 1953 Dr. Laneir Shuler, an Auburn graduate, started it all by opening his clinic in St. George, SC to provide services for small and large animals. His son, Glen Shuler, joined him in practice in 1984 after graduating from Georgia.
The late Dr. J.O. Shuler opened Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital in 1959 after graduating from Georgia. His was the first full time veterinary hospital in the town of Mt. Pleasant! It possessed the first x-ray machine “East of the Cooper” and was used in emergencies for both people and pets! In 1968 Kenneth (K.C.) Shuler joined his uncle J.O. in practice. K.C. Shuler, a Georgia graduate, expanded the business by building Shuler Veterinary Clinic, also in Mt. Pleasant, in 1992. It was a good thing he did too, because his two sons, Kenneth Jr. and Kevin and their wives all became veterinarians. Kenneth and Heather Shuler, both Georgia graduates, own a practice in Santee, SC. Kevin and Laura Shuler and Dr. Marian Shuler-Holladay practice here in Mt. Pleasant at our two locations.

Laura Shuler, DVM Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital
After Dr. K.C. Shuler retired in 2005, Drs. Kevin and Laura Shuler, both Tuskegee University graduates, took over both Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital and Shuler Veterinary Clinic. In the spring of 2005 we were fortunate enough to add our cousin Dr. Marian Shuler Holladay, a Georgia graduate, to run Shuler Veterinary Clinic. We have continued expanding the businesses and in 2006 the new Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital opened near the original building. The Shulers are indeed a unique family. All of the Doctors here are proud of their heritage in both the veterinary profession and in the community in which they live and work. As always, we pledge to continue the long family tradition of providing the best quality care in a caring and professional manner.
Leslie is the Practice Manager for Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital and Shuler Veterinary Clinic. Leslie was born and raised in southern Indiana, across from Louisville, Kentucky. She started in the veterinary field in Atlanta, Georgia in 1984 as a kennel technician, walking dogs and cleaning cages. She came to Charleston in 1986, and was hired by Dr. K.C. Shuler as a technician at Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital. Because of her husband Mark’s job, she moved away for a few years, always wanting to return to the Charleston area. Returning a few years later she was rehired at by Dr. KC. So you might say she definitely enjoyed working with Shuler clan! She was blessed to have adopted her first four legged baby in March of 1999. His full given name is Buffett T Dog. She calls him ”Buffett” when he is a good dog and “T dog” when he is a bad dog. T dog stands for “the dog”, which is not very often used anymore since he has officially joined the ranks of the geriatric set!
Meagan was born and raised in Northampton Pennsylvania, a small town outside of Allentown. Her mother is a veterinary technician who brings all the “leftovers” home to her family’s farm. Just a few of those are the three legged dog, the kitten that was pecked by crows, the blind goose and one-eyed duck and the orphaned chick that turned out to be one very noisy and spoiled rooster! Needless to say, animals have always been a large part of Meagan’s life. She began working as a technician assistant at 15 years old and never left the field. After moving to Charleston in July 2006, she became a part of the Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital family. Starting out as a technician at Shuler Vet Clinic, she became the receptionist at the new office after its completion in October 2006. Her favorite part of her job is that every day is different, there is always a new pet with a new story walking through the door. As the first person you see upon walking in, she is always ready to answer any questions you may have. Meagan has taken a break from the farm life for the past few years, she only has one “child” of her own, Franklin, an 8 year old Dachshund adopted January 2007.

Tim, MPAH Veterinary Technician
Tim was born in New Jersey. As far back as he can remember, he has always had a passion for animals. Growing up, his family had everything from dogs to reptiles, all the weird and exotics. Tim graduated college with a degree in marine biology and a minor in animal science. He has been in the veterinary field since 1986 and worked in all areas from front desk to surgery. His passion lies in the treatment area, with surgery, dental cleanings and hospitalized animals. After moving from Jersey to Florida in 2001 he came to Charleston to be closer to his family in Greenville. Every place he has called home has been near the Atlantic. Since moving to Charleston, Tim has become the proud parent of 2 darling Chihuahua mixes, Darcie and Daisy.
Elida, a new addition to Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital, is originally from Chicago Illinois. With a love for all kinds of animals, she has had fish, birds, hamsters, rats, mice, snakes, iguanas, cats and dogs. From an early age, Elida knew that she needed to work with animals somehow. As a teenager, she started working at an animal hospital as a kennel attendant for a variety of animals. She wanted to learn more about the veterinary field, and so Elida started learning the skills of the veterinary technician/assistant. After 11 years, she is still enjoying her job. She is the proud parent of a mixed breed dog named Virgil, who also happens to be her first dog. Virgil was rescued from an alley when he was 4 months old and has been with Elida ever since. He is a very happy senior citizen and is enjoying South Carolina.
