A trip to Shuler Veterinary Clinic can reveal surprising ways we care for your furry friends.  Beyond the routine check-ups and vaccinations, veterinarians can work wonders in surprising ways. We offer fun testimonials from a few of our favorite patients to illustrate how their veterinary visits were anything but ordinary.

Max the beagle: “My vet taught me good manners.”

Hi, I’m Max, an energetic 2-year-old beagle. I used to be pretty mischievous—I loved chewing on the furniture and barking at every little noise. My owner took me to see my friends at Shuler Veterinary Clinic, where Dr. Shuler worked with us on behavior and training. Dr. Shuler’s team showed my owner how to use positive association training with yummy treats as rewards for good behavior and being well-mannered. Now, I chew only my chew toys, and my owner and I have more fun together. Who knew going to the vet would make me such a good boy?

Oliver the cat: “My vet takes care of my teeth.”

I am Oliver, a distinguished gentlemanly tabby cat with a taste for the finer things in life. My human, my dutiful servant, first noticed that my breath was less than pristine and then that chewing was painful and I was eating less, so he took me to see Dr. Shuler.

Naturally, I got VIP treatment. My veterinarian thoroughly checked my mouth and my teeth and discovered unsightly tartar. They anesthetized me so I would feel no pain, extracted the infected tooth that was stopping me from eating, cleaned and polished my teeth to perfection, and instructed my human on how to maintain my regal smile. Who knew my vet doubled as my personal dentist? For this, I am grudgingly grateful.

Bella the Labrador retriever: “My vet helped me love healthy food.”

I’m Bella, a playful Labrador retriever with a weakness for junk food. I used to gobble down any treat I could find, and then beg for more. Of course, I gained a lot of weight, which made my joints hurt and really slowed me down. I didn’t have the energy to fetch my favorite toy! So, my owner took me to the vet.

Your team taught us about the importance of good nutrition and helped create a healthy meal plan customized especially for me that helped me lose weight, but still included some of my favorite treats. Now, I eat nutritious food with the right amount of calories and I am energetic and happy, like I was once. I feel fantastic, and my coat is shinier than ever. Who knew healthy eating could be so delicious?

Coco the cocker spaniel: “My vet adds excitement and enrichment.”

I’m Coco, a curious cocker spaniel. My life was dull and boring, and I was down in the dumps and had lost my appetite until my owner took me to Shuler Veterinary Clinic, where we were introduced to enrichment activities. Can you believe my mind and body can be active and it can be fun?

From puzzle toys to interactive play sessions to frequent walks, my days are now filled with fun and excitement. I get to explore new things, which keeps my mind sharp, and to spend regular time with my owner every day. Now, I don’t have time to chew on the couch anymore.

Daisy the golden retriever: “My vet’s rehab therapy helped me get back on my feet.”

I’m Daisy, a senior golden retriever. My joints were giving me a lot of trouble, and moving around was really difficult and painful. Dr. Shuler recommended physical therapy and acupuncture sessions, which I was nervous about at first, but the sessions turned out to be fun and helpful. I went regularly to the clinic for some therapy sessions and did other gentle exercises at home. I feel much more agile and comfortable now. And, I don’t need help going up the porch steps anymore. My golden years are truly golden, thanks to my vet.

Luna the poodle: “My vet gave me peace.”

My name is Luna. I am an older, wiser poodle, but my health started to decline and I was in a lot of trouble with arthritis and other problems, like not being able to sleep, that come with age. My family hated seeing me in pain and took me to one of the Animal Hospitals of the Low Country locations.

There, I was treated with compassion and prescribed medication that would alleviate my pain and help me stay calm. I heard the veterinarian explain end-of-life care, and she gave my family a quality-of-life checklist to help them recognize that I was no longer enjoying mostly good days. I feel content, knowing my family will ensure my final days will be peaceful and filled with love.
